Arrival in Trondheim – The City of Kings and Vikings

Day 1

Begin your journey in Trondheim, one of Norway’s oldest and most vibrant cities.
Settle in and enjoy a delicious dinner at one of the many excellent restaurants in the city, for example at 2 Rom og Kjøkken.
Overnight stay in Trondheim.

Historic Wonders and sightseeing from the water

Day 2

Visit the iconic Nidaros Cathedral, the northernmost Gothic cathedral in the world and Norway’s national sanctuary. Explore the Archbishop’s Palace and the Crown Regalia Exhibition.
Explore Trondheim from the water with a boat tour on the Nidelva River, past the colorful warehouses, and further out onto the fjord to the island of Munkholmen.

From Royalty to Mining Heritage

Day 3

In summertime you can enjoy a guided tour at the Royal Residence Stiftsgården in Trondheim.
Drive to the historic mining town of Røros (approx. 2.5 hours).
Explore the fascinating Olav`s mine, revealing 333 years of mining history.

UNESCO World Heritage Site and Mountain Panorama

Day 4

Discover the charming streets of Røros on a guided tour, including a visit to the majestic Røros Church.
Learn more about the history of the mining town at Røros Museum.
Take the gondola to The Hill 1125, a mountain-top restaurant with panoramic views.
Overnight stay in Oppdal.

Wildlife Encounters

Day 5

After breakfast, you can join a full-day musk ox safari with Oppdal Safari in the Dovrefjell Mountains. Dovrefjell National Park is known for its pristine, rugged nature, home to moose, reindeer, arctic foxes, various birds, and the rare musk ox. This expedition into the animal kingdom is an experience you’ll never forget.

Viking Legends and Troll Myths

Day 6

After breakfast, visit the ancient Vang Viking grave, the largest Viking burial site in Northern Europe with 900 graves, and get to know more about the secrets and destinies of the Vikings. During the summer months you can take a guided tour.
Enjoy a peaceful stop by the mountain lake Gjevilvatnet, where you might want to go fishing, and have lunch at the traditional Gjevilvasshytta mountain lodge.
Continuing to the mystical Home of the Trolls (approx. 1h 25 min drive, open during summer), the world’s first troll research station located in the mountains of Trollheimen. Here you can go troll hunting with special detectors. Home of The Trolls is open during the Norwegian summer and autumn holidays.
Grab a bite at the restaurant Trollavvoen (“troll tent”) or enjoy food from the campfire.
From here, you could either drive back to Trondheim Airport Værnes (approx. 2h drive) or continue your journey in Trøndelag or further South-West to the Atlantic Ocean Road or Trollstigen in Åndalsnes.

Transportation in Trøndelag

Getting around in Trøndelag takes a bit of planning, especially if you’re heading to rural areas or smaller destinations. Public transport connects many towns and attractions, but schedules can vary, particularly outside the cities. Renting a car can be a good option if you want more flexibility.
