Commemoration of the Hokstad Landslide, Ytterøy

On the night of April 23, 1870, a large landslide occurred in Hokstad Bay, claiming the lives of seven people, including three children from the English Blewett family who resided near the Ytterøy mines.

154 years later, on the exact day, Richard Blewett (61) is traveling all the way from Australia. His great-grandfather was named William, the 5-year-old boy who was rescued from the masses by plant manager Anton Sophus Bachke.

In honor of Richard's visit, we are organizing a memorial event. He will also have the opportunity to meet descendants of his great-grandfather's rescuer.

Date: Wednesday, April 24th, at 7:00 PM.
Location: Old cemetery near Ytterøy Church, by the Blewett children's gravestone.

Agenda:
Speech by Karl Laugsand
Greetings from Deputy Mayor Bye
Horn music performance
Wreath laying at the gravestone

Unveiling of historical photographs

Coffee and cakes will be served in the church hall afterward.

We warmly welcome everyone to this special and historic day, and we hope you will join us to make it an unforgettable experience for our guests.
