Hiking route: Oftenåsen with the worlds largest garden chair

The hill Oftenåsen with Peilehytta (tourist cabin) is a natural spot for excursions in Steinkjer. The cabin is open to serve refreshments (Sundays 11am – 3pm), offering spectacular views of Steinkjer city, the  fjord, the valley Ogndalen and southwards towards Lake Leksdalsvatnet, with Hermannssnasa towering in the background. At the top you will also have the opportunity to sit in the words largest garden chair.

There is a rich network of well marked and developed paths around the hill. There are mainly 2 paths towards the top: Tranaleia and Ainnervein, both of which start at the Skotvold mine, where there is a car park.
– Tranaleie goes on the front side of the gill and is the steepest and the most popular.
– Annervein is at the back and is somewhat more gentle.

When you reach the top, you should make sure to walk over to the tv transmitter, just a couple of hundred meters extra and with an even better view to the north.
The trail is steep but not particularly long, so no special skills are required. You can easily hike up in trainers.

Getting there
The main access to Oftenåsen is Skotvoldgruva (mine), located on Tana Farm on the town side of Steinkjer. To reach the car park from downtown Steinkjer, turn off route 762 towards Ogndal from Kongensgate.
Then right into Otto Sverdrups veg (in the middle of a sharp turn). Follow this road, which later becomes Tranaskogvegen. Continue straight ahead on this road until you reach a large car park on your right-hand side.
